NEW Mini-Book:  5 Tips for Story Time with Multilingual Infants and Toddlers

Multilingual Promise is focused entirely on how early childhood programs teach multilingual learners: e-learning professional development with AI-guided practice for teachers, and direct guidance for programs to build instructional language models for children's future success.

Championing Teachers.
Empowering Multilingual
Learners.

Mission

Multilingual Promise prepares educators and programs with the specialized knowledge and skills to teach children from birth through age six who are learning English in addition to their home language.

Vision

A future where multilingual education is the standard for early childhood programs, and every multilingual child develops strong proficiency in two or more languages and reads at grade level by fourth grade.

Why Our Work Matters

The Foundation for Reading Begins Before Kindergarten

All children develop the foundations for reading before kindergarten. Multilingual learners develop these foundations while also learning English alongside their home language. They need targeted instruction across concepts, early literacy, math, science, and critical thinking, paired with ongoing oral language support that prepares them to read, talk, and make meaning.

Teachers need specialized training to make strategic, age-appropriate decisions in the moment, whether or not they speak the child's home language, so that English, the home language, and learning all develop together.

Specialized Training and a Coordinated Language Approach

We offer e-learning professional development for early childhood teachers working in centers, family child care, and family-friend-and-neighbor settings. The course includes AI-guided practice for teaching in English with home language support and in dual immersion programs.

For programs, we provide direct technical assistance to select the instructional language model that fits each program's circumstances and put it into practice consistently across infant, toddler, and preschool classrooms.
