Consultation & Technical Assistance

Consultation and technical assistance for program design, teacher development, and multilingual learner success.

Programs Need a Planned Language Approach

Exposure is not enough

Children do not become multilingual just because two languages are around them. Language use must be consistent and sufficient, and languages must be used strategically to drive learning in every area of development. That takes a deliberate plan: which languages, by whom, when, and how much.

Different Models

There is no single right approach. The fit depends on children's language backgrounds, exposure, experience, and proficiencies, the language skills of the teaching team, and the program's own goals, from school readiness targets to full dual immersion, in full-day or part-day structures, for infants and toddlers or preschoolers. Identifying the right approach, designing it for each setting, and putting it into practice is what our technical assistance does.

How it works

1 — Identify. Every program is different. The starting point is an assessment of the children, the teaching team, the program's language goals, and the daily structure.

2 — Design. Together we design the planned language approach: whether teaching happens in English with home language support or in two languages with proficiency goals in both, and what that looks like in each setting, for infants and toddlers and for preschool.

3 — Implement. The approach goes into practice with clear expectations for each setting and a plan for keeping the approach consistent as staffing and enrollment change.

Specialized Teaching

Once the model is set, teachers need professional development to put it into practice with fidelity and confidence. Programs pair technical assistance with group enrollment in Teaching Young Multilingual Learners, our online, self-paced course, so leaders set the approach while teachers build the skills to deliver it.

Pricing

Every program's needs are different. Technical assistance is scoped together, starting from the program's goals, circumstances, and timeline.
